Irlam Rangers AFC History

Irlam Rangers AFC was established in the summer of 2001 by the Chairman Wayne Rabbetts with the help and support of the now Secretary of Irlam MS Warren Dodd. Wayne and Warren managed two teams in the Warrington Junior Football League.

In the autumn of 2003 the club invited Philip Kemp to help build the football club to what it is today.

We are very proud to announce that the football club has the following age ranges

  1. Mini Soccer – 6yr to 11yr
  2. Junior Soccer – 11yr to 18yr
  3. Open Age 18yr

Irlam Rangers AFC achieved Charter Standard Status in 2005, which shows that we are committed not only to the players development, but to the development of the club, coaches and management to ensure that your child receives the best opportunities from us to play football in a safe and friendly environment.

A big thanks and praise goes to all the special managers, coaches & volunteers who give their valuable time to make your child’s dreams come true.

Mini-Soccer: The Best Introduction to the World’s Greatest Game

Irlam Rangers AFC deems Mini-Soccer the most appropriate and fun introduction to football, which complements the Football Associations Vision. It provides quality experiences for all young players, boys and girls at all levels to allow greater involvement in the game, with more touches, dribbles and passes.

Mini Soccer squad sizes are 4 v 4 – 5 v 5 – 6 v 6 and 7 v 7.

The main theme throughout Mini-Soccer is to meet the needs of children. Eleven-a-side association football does not meet those needs. Mini-Soccer is a modified version of association football which retains the essence of the adult game and it’s a game that children can actually play on a mini pitch rather than struggling to understand a game created for adults.

Junior Soccer:

As we move from Mini-Soccer to Junior Soccer the children are becoming more competitive, we help develop their understanding of team play, let them think for themselves and encourage the team to problem solve. We are aware that players can identify strengths and weaknesses, not only with their team mates, but also the manager, coach and parent or guardian. This can be both positive and negative and we only encourage players to assess in positives ways. Junior Soccer has a transitional period of 12 months at the age of 11yrs old, playing 9 v 9 on a ¾ size pitch and goals. We help your child develop a better understanding of the adult game during this period eventually moving to the 11 a side game.

Adult Soccer:

Well after being with the football Club for a possible 14 years comes open age, run by our Chairman Wayne Rabbetts, this takes football to another level competing with teams in a much more diverse range, pub teams, works team and much more.
If parents are interested they can play, subject to places available.

Many Thanks

Philip Kemp
Charter Standard Development Officer
